Understanding DPS in Realm of the Mad God

DPS stands for damage per second and represents how much damage your character can deal to enemies over time. In RotMG, your DPS depends on several factors: your weapon's base damage range, your Attack stat (which boosts damage), and your Dexterity stat (which increases how quickly you fire).

Rate of fire and the number of projectiles per shot also play a crucial role. Some weapons fire multiple projectiles, multiplying your potential damage if all shots connect. However, enemy defence reduces the damage you deal per hit, so high-defence bosses require careful weapon selection.

This RotMG damage calculator provides theoretical values to help you compare builds. Keep in mind that actual combat involves dodging, accuracy, and ability usage, but these baseline DPS figures are invaluable for optimising your gear choices.

Tips to optimise your damage output

  • Choose the right weapon: High-damage, low-fire-rate weapons like the Doom Bow excel against low-defence targets, while faster weapons may be better against armoured foes.
  • Balance DPS and survivability: Don't sacrifice defence or speed purely for damage. A dead character deals no DPS.
  • Consider range and patterns: Some weapons have shorter range or unusual shot patterns. Make sure you can reliably hit your targets.
  • Use buffs wisely: Abilities like Berserk and Damaging can significantly boost your effective DPS. Factor these into your strategy when fighting bosses.
  • Test with this tool: Use the advanced comparison mode to find the best DPS weapon in RotMG for your specific class and play style.

RotMG DPS calculator FAQs

How accurate is this RotMG DPS calculator?
This calculator uses the widely accepted RotMG DPS formula, incorporating Attack, Dexterity, rate of fire, projectiles, and enemy defence. It provides reliable theoretical values for comparing weapons, though actual in-game damage may vary due to accuracy and positioning.
Can I compare different weapons with this tool?
Yes! Use the Advanced Comparison mode to compare up to three weapon setups side-by-side. The tool highlights which setup has the highest effective DPS, making it easy to find the best option for your build.
Does the calculator include status effects and buffs?
This version calculates base DPS without buffs like Berserk or Damaging. To estimate buffed DPS, you can manually increase your Attack stat or rate of fire values to simulate these effects.
What is a good DPS in Realm of the Mad God?
A "good" DPS depends on your class and the content you're running. Generally, 4,000–6,000 effective DPS is solid for most dungeon bosses, while endgame players may reach 8,000+ with optimised gear and stats.
Can I use this DPS calculator on my mobile?
Absolutely. This online RotMG DPS tool is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. Simply enter your stats and tap Calculate to see your results.
How does enemy defence affect my damage per second?
Enemy defence is subtracted from each hit's damage (after Attack scaling). High-defence enemies can drastically reduce your effective DPS, especially if your per-shot damage is low. Armour-piercing weapons or abilities help counter this.
What does armour piercing do in the advanced mode?
Armour piercing reduces the enemy's effective defence by a percentage before damage is calculated. For example, 50% armour pierce against a 40-defence enemy treats them as having only 20 defence.
Why are my results showing a dash (–)?
A dash indicates that a required value is missing or invalid. Please check that all damage, stat, and defence fields contain valid numbers. If effective DPS is zero, the enemy's defence may be completely blocking your damage.
