What This OSRS Seaweed Calculator Does
This OSRS seaweed calculator helps you plan your Crafting training using the popular giant seaweed and Superglass Make method. Whether you're aiming for a specific Crafting level or want to use up your banked giant seaweed, this tool calculates exactly what resources you need and how much XP you'll gain.
The calculator takes into account the different Superglass Make methods (2+12 and 3+18 with or without picking up extra molten glass), your chosen glassblowing item, and provides accurate estimates for Crafting XP, Magic XP, and even Farming XP from growing your own seaweed spores. It's designed for both Ironman accounts and regular players who want to efficiently train Crafting.
By using giant seaweed from the Fossil Island underwater seaweed patch combined with buckets of sand and the Superglass Make spell, you can achieve excellent Crafting and Magic XP rates while producing molten glass for glassblowing.
How to Use the OSRS Giant Seaweed Calculator
Mode 1: Level to Level
Use this mode when you want to reach a specific Crafting level. Enter your current level, target level, and optionally your exact current XP if you're partway through a level. The calculator will tell you exactly how many giant seaweed, buckets of sand, and runes you need.
Mode 2: Banked Giant Seaweed
Already have giant seaweed in your bank? This mode shows you how much Crafting and Magic XP you can gain from your current stock. Simply enter how many giant seaweed you have, and the calculator will show your potential XP gains and ending Crafting level.
Mode 3: Custom Molten Glass Goal
If you need a specific amount of molten glass (for example, to make unpowered orbs for charging), enter your target glass amount. The calculator works backwards to show you exactly what resources are needed to produce that much molten glass.
Choosing Your Superglass Method
The 3+18 with pickup method gives the highest molten glass yield per giant seaweed (approximately 9.6 glass per seaweed). However, it requires you to pick up extra glass that drops on the ground. The 3+18 no pickup method is faster but wastes some glass. The 2+12 method uses fewer inventory slots but is less efficient overall.
Interpreting Your Results
The results panel shows your total resources needed, XP breakdown (Crafting from both Superglass and glassblowing, plus Magic XP), estimated seaweed spores if you're growing your own seaweed, and approximate time based on your input rates.
Best Methods for Giant Seaweed and Superglass Make
Giant seaweed is one of the most efficient ways to train Crafting in OSRS. Each giant seaweed counts as 6 regular seaweed when used with Superglass Make, making it far superior for training. You can grow giant seaweed from seaweed spores at the underwater seaweed patch on Fossil Island.
Recommended Setup
For maximum efficiency, use the 3 giant seaweed + 18 buckets of sand method while picking up extra molten glass that drops on the ground. This gives you approximately 28.8 molten glass per cast, compared to 26.8 without pickup or 17.4 with the 2+12 method.
Fossil Island Seaweed Farming
To farm your own giant seaweed, you'll need to unlock Fossil Island and plant seaweed spores in the underwater seaweed patches. With magic secateurs and high Farming levels, you can get up to 120 giant seaweed per spore planted. This makes it extremely efficient for self-sufficient training.
Ironman vs Main Account Tips
For Ironman accounts, collecting your own buckets of sand is essential. The Yanille sandpit with Camulet teleports is popular, or you can use the sandstorm grinder in the Desert Mining Camp. Main accounts can simply buy buckets of sand and giant seaweed from the Grand Exchange, making setup much faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
This calculator helps you plan Crafting training using the giant seaweed and Superglass Make method. It calculates how many giant seaweed, buckets of sand, seaweed spores, and runes you need to reach your target level. It also shows your expected Crafting XP, Magic XP, and time estimates.
The exact amount depends on your starting level and chosen glassblowing item. Using unpowered orbs with the 3+18 pickup method, you typically need around 10,000-15,000 giant seaweed and 60,000-90,000 buckets of sand to go from level 1 to 99. Use this calculator with your exact levels for precise numbers.
The 3 giant seaweed + 18 buckets of sand with pickup method is the most efficient. It produces approximately 28.8 molten glass per cast (9.6 per giant seaweed), which is significantly better than the 2+12 method at 17.4 glass per cast. The extra glass drops on the ground and must be picked up.
Yes, if you want maximum efficiency. The Superglass Make spell creates more molten glass than fits in your inventory, and the excess drops on the ground. Picking it up gives you about 7% more glass per cast. However, if you prefer faster casting at the cost of some glass, you can skip the pickup.
Seaweed spores are seeds used to grow giant seaweed at the underwater seaweed patches on Fossil Island. One spore can yield between 2-120+ giant seaweed depending on your Farming level and equipment. The calculator estimates how many spores you need based on your selected average yield per spore.
Absolutely! The giant seaweed method is extremely popular for Ironman accounts. The calculator includes an Ironman mode toggle that provides specific tips for self-sufficient resource gathering. It's one of the best ways to train Crafting without relying on the Grand Exchange.
The XP calculations use official OSRS values and are highly accurate. Time estimates depend on your input rates (casts per hour and items per hour) and are approximate guides. Actual times may vary based on your click speed, banking method, and whether you pick up extra glass.
Empty light orbs give the highest XP at 70 XP per glass (requires level 87 Crafting). Lantern lenses give 55 XP (level 49), and unpowered orbs give 52.5 XP (level 46). Most players use unpowered orbs as they're unlocked earlier and are useful for charging into various orbs.
Main accounts can buy buckets of sand from the Grand Exchange. Ironman accounts typically use the Yanille sandpit (teleport with Camulet or Watchtower), the sandstorm grinder in the Desert Mining Camp, or purchase them from charter ships. The sandstorm grinder is the most AFK method for Ironmen.
Each cast of Superglass Make requires 2 Astral runes, 6 Fire runes, and 10 Air runes. The spell is on the Lunar spellbook and requires 77 Magic to cast. Using a staff of fire or tome of fire can eliminate the fire rune cost, and a smoke battlestaff covers both fire and air runes.
