How The Calculation Works
Texas Scramble Handicap Calculator (WHS UK)
Use this tool to instantly calculate the Team Playing Handicap for 2, 3, or 4-player Texas Scramble competitions. Updated for the World Handicap System (WHS) and England Golf/GB&I guidance.
How it Works
Unlike individual Stableford or Medal play, a scramble handicap is a composite of all players. Under WHS rules, the team allowance is calculated by:
- Calculating each player's Course Handicap (based on Slope, Course Rating, and Par).
- Sorting players from lowest handicap to highest.
- Applying a specific percentage allowance to each player.
- Summing the results and rounding to the nearest whole number (0.5 rounds up).
Official Allowance Percentages
Most clubs in the UK and Ireland use the standard WHS recommendations:
- 4 Players: 25% / 20% / 15% / 10% (from lowest to highest handicap)
- 3 Players: 30% / 20% / 10%
- 2 Players: 35% / 15%
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Rounding too early: Do not round individual Course Handicaps to whole numbers before applying the percentage. Keep the decimals for the calculation, then round the final team total.
- Wrong Slope Rating: Ensure you use the Slope Rating for the specific tees you are playing (e.g., White vs Yellow).
