How to use this calculator

Trying to work out your heptathlon score by hand can be slow, especially when every event uses a different scoring curve. This heptathlon points calculator uses the recognised combined-events formulas to score your performances quickly. Enter your marks into the performance boxes, and the tool will automatically output your points.

Input Formats

Track Events

Enter your time in seconds for the 100m hurdles and 200m.

e.g. 13.85

800m

Accepts standard mm:ss.ms format or total seconds. Both work perfectly.

e.g. 2:12.50132.50

Field Events

Enter all jumps and throws in metres. Centimetres are handled natively.

e.g. 1.826.10

Manual vs Fully Automatic Timing (FAT)

If you are competing at a club meet or school event where electronic timing is not used, your times will be recorded by a person with a stopwatch. For events shorter than 400m, the 100m hurdles and 200m, 0.24 seconds must be added to a hand time before calculating points. Check the “Hand timed” box, and the calculator will adjust your score automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

?How are heptathlon points calculated?

Points are calculated using official combined-events formulas. Track events use INT(A × (B - P)^C), while field events use INT(A × (P - B)^C). The constants A, B, and C are unique to each event.

?What events are included?

The outdoor heptathlon runs over two days in a strict sequence: Day 1: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m. Day 2: Long jump, javelin throw, 800m.

?What is a good heptathlon score?

Context is key. Elite international athletes score over 6,000 points. A score of 5,000+ is excellent for national-level club athletes, while strong club competitors usually target the 4,000 to 4,500 range.

?Why is my weakest event important?

The scoring system is progressive. Small improvements in weaker events can produce useful points gains. This tool highlights your lowest-scoring event so you can review where improvement may matter most.
