How to use this calculator

Planning your Prayer grind shouldn't be a headache. Simply enter your current level (or XP) and your target goal. The calculator instantly works out exactly how many bones, ashes, or ensouled heads you need.

You can toggle between different training methods—like the Gilded Altar or the Chaos Altar—to see how your costs change. Sort by “Best Value” to save your GP, or “Fastest” if you just want the level as quickly as possible.

Prayer training methods explained

Cheapest methods

Using the Chaos Altar in the Wilderness is almost always the cheapest route. Because it has a 50% chance to save your bones, it effectively halves the cost of your training. Ensouled heads are also a fantastic budget option if you don't mind the extra effort of reanimating them.

Fastest methods

If speed is your only concern, offering Superior Dragon Bones or Dagannoth Bones at a Gilded Altar or Chaos Altar offers the highest XP per hour. Demonic Offerings using high-tier ashes can also yield massive XP drops, though they require a high Magic level and specific spellbook.

Best value methods

For most players, standard Dragon Bones at the Chaos Altar provide the perfect balance of speed and cost. If you want to avoid the Wilderness entirely, using Dragon Bones or Wyrm Bones at a Player-Owned House (POH) Gilded Altar is the safest, most reliable alternative.

? Frequently Asked Questions

QHow many bones do I need for 99 Prayer in OSRS?

A

To reach 99 Prayer (13,034,431 XP) from level 1 using Dragon Bones at the Chaos Altar, you will need approximately 25,862 bones. If you use a Gilded Altar instead, you will need exactly double that amount (51,724 bones) because you lose the 50% bone-saving effect.

QIs the Chaos Altar cheaper than the Gilded Altar?

A

Yes. The Chaos Altar provides the exact same base XP boost as a Gilded Altar (3.5x), but it also has a 50% chance to not consume the bone you offer. This effectively makes it twice as cheap as a Gilded Altar. However, it is located in level 38 Wilderness, so there is a risk of being killed by other players.

QAre ensouled heads worth using?

A

Ensouled heads are highly cost-effective and offer great GP per XP. They are often cheaper than using bones at a Gilded Altar. The trade-off is that they require you to cast Arceuus spells and kill the reanimated monsters, making the method slightly more click-intensive and requiring combat gear.

QWhat is the fastest Prayer training method?

A

The absolute fastest method is offering Superior Dragon Bones at the Chaos Altar or a Gilded Altar, yielding over 1 million XP per hour. Alternatively, using the Demonic Offering spell on Infernal Ashes can also provide extremely fast XP rates, but both methods are very expensive.
